I’m recovering after a very successful RMOUG Training Days 2018 and now looking towards the next year. The board elections come up in two months and I’m happy to say, that the goals that I hoped to achieve in my year as president, the board was able to achieve even as I worked on the conference and started as the president for the SQL Server User Group here in Denver, all in parallel. The primary leadership for the user group was becoming aware of what most Oracle user groups are facing- our user groups are getting older, (2018 was the…

So I survived the first day of RMOUG Training Day’s workshops, sessions and the VIP Reception ran a little later last night than we originally planned. I had to present in the first session of the day at 8:30am, so I was a little worse for wear when I checked into my room for DevOps for the DBA. I really appreciate all the attendees that came to the session, the great questions and feedback I received. Its not easy to pay attention to a speaker that early in the morning! Penny Avril gave us an excellent keynote, describing where Oracle…

So its the first day of RMOUG Training Days 2018 in Westminster, CO, (just NW of Denver, between Denver and Boulder) and we’re enjoying the winter weather after spring temperatures on Sunday, which dropped almost 50F degrees in a single day. The change in temperatures was accompanied by about 8 inches of snow for Denver and most of those in summer gear were faced with only one choice…. Actually they were left with two- They *could* go for a swim in the snow or they could register for the workshops at RMOUG Training Days, braving the roads, (which due to…

So Training Days is coming up in two weeks. You haven’t registered to attend? How you feeling about that? Rocky Mountain Oracle User Group, (RMOUG) has the largest Oracle user group grassroots conference each February. For the 2018 year, we decided to shake it up with: A new venue, The Westminster Westin Conference Center A new management company, EPS Conference Management A new Training Days Director, Komal Goyal A new management software, Bizabo This was a huge undertaking and I have to say, I was worried we wouldn’t be able to pull it off, but it was time. There’s nothing…

Ah, yes, it’s that RMOUG Training Days time of the year again! As a techie, I didn’t put a lot of time into my slides when I first started presenting, thinking I’d simply dazzle them with my amazing knowledge. What I found is that slide deck skills don’t just help your presentation, they help you tell the story better, which should be the goal of every presenter. No matter how technical we are, we most likely haven’t had any formal Powerpoint training and as I’ve been upping my “PPT skills” this last year, I thought I’d share with the rest of the…

The only thing that remains constant is change. ~Heralitus This often is more apparent in technology than anywhere else. Even with a group of Oracle evangelists and enthusiasts like the ACE program, which offers the opportunity for peers to recognize those that contribute to the community and help make it a better place. I’ve [often quietly] assisted many around me to find their path into the ACE program, even when I was an employee at Oracle and even now that I have ACE alumni status. It was once a rare thing to have this status, but I was also considered…
